Château Brane-Cantenac: A Jewel in Margaux
Located in the heart of the prestigious Margaux appellation, Château Brane-Cantenac is renowned for its rich history, exceptional wine production, and refined elegance. The estate dates back to the 18th century and was purchased in 1838 by the legendary winemaker Baron de Brane, who gave the Château its name. Today, it is owned by the Lurton family, who continue its heritage and tradition with a modern twist.
Château Brane-Cantenac spans 75 hectares of exceptional vineyards, situated on one of the highest points of the Margaux appellation. The soil is predominantly gravel, contributing to optimal drainage and the unique minerality of the wines. The vineyards are planted with a classic Bordeaux blend of grape varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Carmenère.
The wines of Château Brane-Cantenac are produced with utmost care and precision. The grapes are hand-harvested and carefully sorted. Fermentation takes place in a combination of stainless steel and concrete tanks, allowing winemakers to precisely control the temperature and process. After fermentation, the wine ages for 18 months in French oak barrels, 70% of which are new. This ensures a perfect balance between fruit, tannins, and oak influences.
Château Brane-Cantenac produces wines known for their depth, complexity, and elegance. The aromas are rich with dark fruits such as cassis and blackberries, with subtle hints of cedarwood, tobacco, and violets. The taste is full and powerful, yet silky smooth, with a long and refined finish. These wines have excellent aging potential, becoming more complex and intriguing over the years.
Château Brane-Cantenac is also committed to sustainable viticulture practices. They use integrated farming techniques, minimize the use of pesticides, and promote biodiversity in their vineyards. This not only enhances the quality of the wine but also protects the environment and preserves the terroir for future generations.
