Donnafugata takes a significant step in sustainable wine production with the introduction of new, eco-friendly bottles for their Lighea 2023 wine.
The Sicilian winemaker has strengthened its commitment to sustainability with the introduction of the Cento per Cento Sicilia bottle and the Nomacorc Ocean closure.
Lighea, an aromatic wine made from Zibibbo grapes, symbolizes heroic viticulture and innovation. The new Cento per Cento Sicilia bottle is produced entirely in Sicily from recycled glass and weighs only 410 grams. This significantly reduces CO2 emissions and environmental impact. The bottle is part of a circular economy model promoted by Fondazione SOStain and implemented by O-I Glass.
In addition, Lighea is now sealed with the Nomacorc Ocean closure, made from recycled plastic collected in coastal areas. This closure helps protect the marine ecosystem and highlights Donnafugata's commitment to environmental conservation.
Antonio Rallo, winemaker at Donnafugata, says: "The extreme nature of Pantelleria has always been a real challenge and Lighea is an authentic interpretation of this land. Our team works hard to create unique and distinctive products like Lighea."
Josè Rallo, manager of the company, adds: "The introduction of the Cento per Cento Sicilia bottle and the Nomacorc Ocean closure are in line with the sustainable development goals of the UN 2030 agenda. These innovations support over 30 years of good practices at Donnafugata."
The new Lighea 2023 packaging tells the story of this special wine with an enchanting mermaid on the label, now featuring the colors of the Pantelleria sunrise.
