5 things you didn't know about our ENSIS - Aglianico Taurasi DOCG

  1. This grape variety dates back to the Greek era and the name derives from Hellenic, later transformed with the Spanish colonization into “Aglianico”

  2. The name Taurasi derives from Taurasia, the small village dating back to the Greek era, conquered by the Romans after defeating the Harpins, in 90 ad. C.

  3. The area of origin of the grapes suitable for producing the DOCG Taurasi wine, bviously includes the village of Taurasi and 16 other municipalities in he province of Avellino. A land characterized by volcanic soil, where the Aglianico vine has found its natural habitat and offers its best expressions.

  4. The Ensis is sourced from very old vineyards where grapes partially come from the historical vineyard in Case D’Alto of over 250 years old, able to give the best expression of this timeless wine . Our vineyard in Case D’Alto is one of the last examples of ungrafted vines which have a articular training system called “Raggera Irpina” (radial Shape).

  5. Ensis, comes from the latin word that means sword, and it tells the story of Vesevo and Sebeto, two young men both deeply in love with a beautiful girl named Leucopetra. For a long time both men courted the beautiful girl, but she could not make up her mind which of them to choose. One day, while she was picking shells on the beach, Vesevo and Sebeto appeared in front of her and began a terrible fight. Leucopetra got so frightened, she ran into the water and called for her father, Neptune, who turned her into the biggest and most beautiful sea stack. Sebeto, shattered by the pain, cried so desperately, he turned into a river, that mysteriously disappeared thousands of years after. Vesevo lost his mind. The fire of his love was turned into the fire of the Volcano.
